Short film of BAU in Cannes!

Last week, two of our former students attended the Cannes Film Festival to present their short film, produced at the Stop Motion Master, “From the same Thread”. For the first time this year, ANNY – Animation Nights New York – had selected 20 short films from its animation programming to be a part of the Shortfilm Corner at Cannes. This initiative’s goal is to bring more animation to the festival, motivating the audience to attend screenings with very diverse techniques and topics. At the same time, this collaboration allows animators and filmmakers from all over the world […]

Our students from the Stop Motion Master have begun to work on their final projects, which will be two animated shortfilms with a technique and thematic of their choice. Here we see them in action! Over the past month, each group of students have developed a story for their film. With guidelines from our teachers in the Master, they arrived to a solid script and storyboard. This will help them plan the production steps properly.     During the following weeks, they will be ending the Character design stage, and building the scenery located in […]

Puppet Construction Classes

This week, our students from Master Stop Motion  started to construct their characters for animation. Eduard Puertas, industrial designer and stop motion animator in Citoplasmas, showed them different building techniques to make a simple but efficient skeleton to animate. Starting from their own character designs, students developed different methods that were a better fit for their designs. The results are some pretty unique and functional puppets for animation! We hope to see some new animations from our students with their own puppets very soon !

Catching up with our students

We had the chance to speak with our former student of the Master Stop Motion, Dariana. After finishing her studies in BAU, she went back to Mexico, where she started her own animation studio. Before this Master, Dariana had no experience in animation, and she tells us how during this course she could develop the skills to later work in StopMotion professionally. For her, the most attractive part of the Master was working on the animation shortfilm: “…When you start to create your own story, script, storyboard, character design, puppet construction, animation, etc. In that moment […]

Experimental Animation with Antoni Pinent

In the world of Stop Motion animation, there are many different techniques, and it’s easier to recognize some of them more than others (Ex. Puppet animation, Cut-out). Nevertheless, we can find other ways to animate, and that is actually one of the big objectives in the Master of Stop Motion of BAU: to encourage the students to get familiar with more unknown techniques and try out different materials and processes. Last week, the class had the chance to learn about experimental animation with the Film Maker and Curator Antoni Pinent. The invitation was to create their own […]
