Last week, two of our former students attended the Cannes Film Festival to present their short film, produced at the Stop Motion Master, “From the same Thread”. For the first time this year, ANNY – Animation Nights New York – had selected 20 short films from its animation programming to be a part of the Shortfilm Corner at Cannes. This initiative’s goal is to bring more animation to the festival, motivating the audience to attend screenings with very diverse techniques and topics. At the same time, this collaboration allows animators and filmmakers from all over the world to be a part of this prestigious event.
Our students from last year’s Master, Lorène Friesenbichler and Phaedra Derizioti, had the chance to participate in this selection, and they shared their experience with us:
“The Festival is very dynamic, there are so many screenings and activities happening at the same time, it’s very stimulating. It was specially exciting to watch our short film at an event like Cannes, to see the room full of people that comes specifically for animation films, which is very rare in this festival” – Lorène.
On Thursday 17th of May was the official screening of ANNY at Palais H, where the 35 filmmakers and/or animators of the selection could share their experience with other professionals of the movie industry.
Congratulations to the team of “From the Same Thread” for this achievement!
